Utopia Drive Weekend

Friday - Sunday,
November 15 - 17, 2019

Participate either day as a single event or join us for the whole weekend
(separate Incentive Points for each day)

Event planned by
Jonna Clark & Brad Mitchell

Get your fine BMW motors ready for the annual Utopia Drive. It’s always a GREAT weekend of driving the Texas hill country!

If you've never driven the roads west of Boerne & Kerrville, you are in for an amazing treat. They are some of the best roads in the State!

This year we will base out of Kerrville again and Brad & I thought it would be nice to have a "host", home-base hotel this year, so we have a block of rooms ready. This will give us all a place to gather if the weather is nice and get to know each other better.

Friday, November 15th:

The weekend will begin with a Friday evening social at Pint & Plow Brewing Co. from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

Come & go as you please.

332 Clay St.
Kerrville, TX 78028

We have the entire “house” portion reserved, so come in on that side of the restaurant (pictured) and look for the welcome table.  You may park in the Napa Auto Parts lot, or just down Clay Street behind the bank that fronts Hwy. 27/Main St.

Saturday, November 16th:

- Meet at the Walmart at 1216 Junction Hwy. (Hwy. 27), located about a half-mile to the west (left out of the hotel parking lot) from the hotel.

- Meet at 8 with a planned 8:30 departure…  Morning drive via back roads to Utopia with a stop at Garven Store along the way.

- Lunch on Saturday will be at the Laurel Tree in Utopia, a French gourmet restaurant where we will be served a delightful four-course Le Cordon Bleu meal. Lunch includes an appetizer, soup, choose from two main courses, dessert, iced tea, or coffee. If you've never dined at the Laurel Tree before, the meal is in the true French style – tasty but not too heavy.

The property is an interesting Provence-Style building, which has beautiful gardens, with an herb garden, and enormous oaks. It also has a large parking area. This is one of the special highlights that gives this weekend its name.

**The cost for lunch is $20 per person that we will need to collect from you BEFORE departure on Saturday morning. Cash or check is fine.

After lunch we'll have another fun drive 'round about and into Medina. From here you'll have your choice of a pit stop at Love Creek Orchards, aka "The Apple Store", or Camp Verde on the way back into Kerrville.

Please join us for dinner at Billy Gene's at 6:30 pm. We'll order off the menu and as long as we have 35 we'll have a private room to ourselves.

Sunday, November 17th

We’ll meet at 8:30 at the back of the hotel in the lot to the right along Guadalupe St..

We’ll leave at approximately 9 am.

The drive will be more of a scenic tour. We’ll drive across the countryside and end up at Bankersmith, TX for lunch.

Bankersmith is a ghost town located just north of the Kendall County line in Gillespie County on Old Number 9/Old San Antonio Road.  Originating as a train station in 1913, it was named after a gentleman who helped finance the railroad between San Antonio & Fredericksburg.  By the 1920’s it had a thriving community of 50 with a post office and dance hall.  By the 40’s it was pretty much abandoned.

Today Bankersmith has a bar & general store (sort of), a food truck, and the dance hall.  We can play pool, darts, cornhole or chickenshit bingo while we relax under the trees and enjoy the delish food the food truck has to offer.  We personally recommend the fried pork ribs!

IMPORTANT PRE-DRIVE PREP TIPS!

For both days, plan to arrive "Full, Full and Empty". That is, full tank of gas, full stomach, and empty bladder.

Printed map sets with directions will be provided on Saturday and Sunday morning.

We will be using radios over the course of the weekend, so if you have a set of FRS/GMRS radios, bring them along. We will use channel 20 sub code 3.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email either of us, [email protected] or [email protected]
